Getting Ready For Kindergarten!!!!

We had our daughter's kindergarten open house today!
She got to take her school supplies to her room and meet her teacher.
Even though this is really hard for Mike and I, we did have a nice time.
Her teacher is really nice.
She was so excited to go!

Her backpack is bigger than she is!!

School starts this week and I am feeling a little bummed:(
Our home is going to be really really really quiet without her.
(at least until we get our baby home....then there might be some crying)
I have been thinking a lot about home schooling......
we'll see how this goes??????
I'm not sure I could "do it all".........
home school our 5 year old, give attention to our 2 year old and
bond with our new baby?????

I was thinking the exact same thing about the backpack as I scrolled down the page. Too cute. Give your question about school to God in prayer. If it is His will for your family, He will help your through homeschooling with your full plate. I was also concerned about it being too much, but I have given that concern to Him.

Oh my gosh, I feel your pain too. Meris is starting on Monday. Sniff.Sniff. I'm on the side of public education. I think there is something huge that happens socially for kids at school. Learning to get along with ALL types of kids, so important! But I also recognize the many benefits of homeschooling too! It's hard to always know what's best.

Wow! Kindergarten--such an exciting and great big step!!! YAY!

Don't stress about public, private or home schooling yet...your daughter and your faith will guide you.

Congratulations on this huge moment!

I'm homeschooling a 9 year old, a 5 year old, a 4 year old, as well as giving time & attention to a 2 year old, a public-school high schooler, and doing part time daycare this year. Piece of cake. LOL

(I have to address Jana's comment about learning to get along with ALL types of kids. In my experience, that doesn't happen in a school setting. Quite the opposite, actually, the majority of kids end up just hanging out with their own grade level.)

We did a year of homeschooling Kinder this past year, and I guess my overall thought is, you aren't commiting yourself forever. One year at a time, based on the current needs of your child and of your family. We are trying private school this year, but wont hesitate to homeschool again if it doesn't work, or if our son shows needs that would be better met in a homeschool environment. Coming from a family of public educators, it was hard to not feel judged or guilty or awkward (even though I know they were supportive). Anyway, I think God will make it clear to you what you should do, and I would try to alleviate yourself of the pressure to figure it all out and just pull back and observe, watch, and listen.

SO cute...this made me cry! i have a little girl (my oldest!) in kindergarten, too... and I'm homeschooling, but she's in a program one full day a week. its a public school program for hs'ed kids called Options. Her first day is monday... and i'm crying thinking about that! :)
i've heard that the ps's very willing to work with hs'ers...and allow them to come half days, or half days 3 days a week, or whatever for specials like art, gym, music, etc... something to check into. there are so many options! :)
i don't think there is a right way for everyone. but we knew this was the right thing for our fam, for this year. we want her home this year to bond with her 2 new siblings.
we are taking it one year at a time. In just 2 weeks I will have a 5,4,3 and 2 year old! Ah!! YAY!!
Another Angela! :)

I am sure she will love Kindergarten...such great fun. BUT, if you ever need homeschool info...this is our 12th year. If I can do it with 6, through adoptions (some through foster care...which means social workers coming in and out of your home weekly) well, anyone can. Of course put God in the front of it and count it pure joy.

Enjoy your school year...hope your baby comes soon. I am new here, so I am not sure how long you have to wait.

We (I heehee) Homeschool our kiddos...age 9, 7, and Boo is 2. It really does work out. Homeschooling takes way less time then a normal school day :) Good luck either way !!

I was a public school teacher for having kids and I can truly see the benefits of "both ways"...I think you just have to do what fits your family and your schedules. I personally love our public school because I used to teach there..but would quickly homeschool if I felt the kids would be better off...Just pray about it and you'll get your answer, kristi
