???Siblings???

Siblings, why siblings??? When we tell people that we might be bringing two children home from Ethiopia they seem very surprised.

When Mike and I started praying/talking about adoption, right away Mike felt like we needed to bring siblings home. I was not as sure as he was. The thought of doubling the number of children we have kinda freaked me out. Right now we have two children ages 5 and 1.5. They keep us pretty busy! We started off thinking, we would for sure adopt siblings...... then fear set in and we had our home study written for one infant. We sent our home study to the agency and started waiting. Our hearts were so heavy for siblings/older children. I looked at my children one day and thought "if they were in Ethiopia and up for adoption, what would happen to them? Would they get separated? Or would they be harder to place because there's two of them?" It broke my heart. Adopting siblings was on our hearts, we thought about it a lot. Is this what God wants us to do? We decided to have an addendum done to our home study and change it to a sibling group or a single infant. We are really trusting in God and want to be open to what He wants for our family. We continue to pray GODS WILL BE DONE. We are very excited to see what God has planned for our family!!

We are sure at an exciting time right now. Being number 2 on the sibling list means we could get a call anytime or it could take 5-6 months.

I am filled with goose bumps right now because you just described our EXACT feelings when we began our home study except I wanted siblings and my husband was nervous. We had our first home study meeting and specified a little girl. Well...the rest you know. I gazed into the eyes of THREE treasures and I was hooked. We contacted our social worker and changed our home study! Siblings rule! Yeah...Siblings!!
I think it's a sign!

Thanks for your comment and now I have seen your fun blog. How exciting about siblings! God knows already who belongs in your family. As for the lifebook, start now and you'll use your time wisely. There is a book called Lifebooks creating a treasure for the adopted child - by Beth O'Malley. It really helps walk you through it. Both of our adopted kids LOVE!!!!! their lifebooks and Elijah's is not done yet. It's especially helpful when adopting a baby as they will have no memories of their early life.

It is going to be so exciting to see what God has in store for you and your family!!

My blogover is just a template. There is a great website at the bottom of the right column on my blog with very easy to follow instructions.

No news yet. Just waiting for my home study to come back from review in Portland. It has been there since last Monday, so I should hear that it is done sometime this week.

It's crazy to think how God places His desires on our hearts. He leads us just to were he wants us so His will can be done. It sure looks like you are going to get siblings. That is so exciting!! I will be anxious to see what God has in store for you and your family.

How fun! I asked our social worker to put that in our home study, too and my hubband just looked at me funny. Originally it was his idea to have all our kids at once...then he got nervous. It's still in there, though!

I am so excited to see where the Lord will lead!!

I think it is really exciting. Brian and I had that conversation and he was pretty scared of my suggestion... I am still working on him. I have 6 days before our home visit :)

Michelle,

I thought you were crazy when you said "siblings", but then when I read that you already have two children....I KNEW you were crazy. I'm happy to be waiting with you, but I know you'll get the call sooner than you think. God is soooo good.

UPDATE! Michelle--that's funny that you misspelled your name. I think I just misspelled misspell--maybe. Anyway. We are now number 13 on the girl's list. Although I received some encouraging remarks on my agci yahoo group post. Are you number one yet? I can't wait to say, "You're number one! You're number one!"

Quick question about the wait list that I can't wait to be on - do you get notified each time you move up a number on this list? If so, have you moved up at all?!?

Brian and Autumn said...

Thanks for the quick answer!! So what you are really saying is once we are on the wait list we have to really become blog stalkers? :)

Hi Michelle,
We just got back from vacation so I haven't been able to blog. Yes, we are waiting for our FDL and everyday, I pop over to the mailbox just hoping and hoping. I called recently to get an update and the person that I spoke with uhhh..was not helpful at all for a variety of reasons. So not super encouraging, but I'm sure it will happen when it's supposed to! I'm enjoying following your journey and anxiously await a referral for you! Jana
